So, where do I begin? Let me start off by saying that I am terrified of spiders. It doesn’t matter if it’s a teeny-tiny baby or a giant hairy tarantula. Spiders, in general, creep me out…like the “jump on top of a table & scream my lungs out” type of creep out. I don’t know why or how this came about, but I’ve been this way my entire life, & if I ever see a spider within a 50+ ft. radius of me, I will over-the-top freak out & cause a scene…especially if my husband is around.

Las night was no exception, & boy did I sure get the heebie-jeebies. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about what happened. Let me break it down for everyone:

After taking my shower & going through my usual bedtime routine , I got into bed & was playing games on my iPad, which I often do before I go to sleep. Right before I get ready to sleep, I go to the bathroom at least once. (I tend to have a more active bladder right before I go to bed, which I find very unusual.) As I walked back to my side of the bed, I saw a baby spider crawling on the wall next to my nightstand. I didn’t really think anything of it, & squashed it with my finger. (Sorry, little fella.) I then proceeded to turn of my bedside lamp.

As you can see in the above photo, the lampshade is quite long, & it covers the switch. So I have to really go under the shade & reach for the switch to turn the lamp on/off. I was hovering over the lamp so I could get a better look at where the switch was, instead of my usual blindly feeling around for it, & that’s when I saw at least 6 or 7 other baby spiders roaming around inside my lampshade…making webs & having a good time. It wasn’t until I backed away from my entire nightstand, when I saw more spiders crawling on the desk surface of the table, & some we’re making webs from the lamp to the walls (as you can see in the above photo). 1. Spiders were crawling on that wall. 2. Spiders were making long web lines from that wall to the lampshade, then back to wall no.1, 3. Spiders were crawling up & down inside that lampshade & making webs around the light bulb.

I know that these little guys were harmless & minding their own business, but I couldn’t help but let my phobia rush over me & let me feel scared. Of course, like I had mentioned earlier, I had to make a huge fuss about it all. I woke my husband up in a panic, & made him vanquish my mortal enemies, like the scaredy cat I am.

Then, my husband being the macho guy that he is, tried to reassure me afterwards that I was overreacting, & that since the spiders were taken care of, I’d have nothing to worry about. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT??! Who is he trying to kid here? Does he not know my personality?

Of course I’m going to make a huge deal out of it & scare my own self.

I let my paranoia get the better of me & decided to get the vacuum & clean the whole area. I think the part that freaked me out the most was thinking about how long those spiders had been there without my knowledge. I mean, I turned on the lamp somehow & at some point during the night, right?? So, how could I have not seen them earlier?? How come I didn’t notice them the whole time I was propped up against my headboard, playing with my iPad? More importantly, how could I have missed seeing them while I was lying in bed, facing that exact wall & playing with my cell phone??

I am usually much more careful & aware of all the creepy-crawlies that come my way.

I am especially meticulous when it comes to keeping my bedroom neat, clean, & clear of all unwelcomed bugs.

I even have a plug-in Bell+ Howell pest repellent right next to my bed. Letting that many tiny spiders invade my sacred space just really baffles my mind. How could I slip up like that? I tried to sleep, & eventually I did. However, this morning I woke up with a few itchy bites on my forearms. Next time, I will definitely have a better plan of action to prevent this from happening again. Woof.

“Duck says ‘quack’, and Fish go ‘blub’, and the Seal goes ‘ow ow ow’… But there’s one sound, that no one knows… What does the fox say?”

I’m not sure if this is a 100% worldwide viral video yet, but it is quickly becoming an Internet sensation (with even the Ohio University Marching Band playing a cover of this song at a recent game).  What’s that song, you ask?  It is… “The Fox” by Ylvis

I am completely smitten with this song (& possibly this group, which happens to be two Norwegian brothers who formed a comedic-duo-turned-TV-show-hosts).  There are some reviewers who describe this group as being like the Norwegian version of Saturday Night Live’s ‘The Lonely Island’.  I can sort of see the resemblance: the humor, the blatant spoofing, etc.  Whenever I listen to this song, it kind of reminds me of the song “If You’re Into It” by The Flight of The Conchords…for the seriously laugh-your-ass-off lyrics & catchy background beats.

Here’s more info about the group Ylvis:

Vergard & Bård Ylvisåker

1. Ylvis is a Norwegian variety show group (comedy duo/band) comprised of two brothers who consider themselves a cabaret.
2. The brothers’ names are Bård (the blonde one) and Vegard (brown hair) Ylvisåker; Vegard is a couple years older than Bård, although both are in their early thirties.
3. Vergard bears a striking resemblance to Josh Groban and has been known to impersonate him, even attempting to gain entry to venues where Groban is performing.
4. Last year, Ylvis won an award for Best Performance on Film and Television (in Norway), their first after being nominated for many awards previously.
5. They have another thought provoking video from a couple years ago called “What’s the meaning of Stonehenge.”
6. They are known as Norway’s version of The Lonely Island, an American comedy group.

Here’s yet another hilarious video from Ylvis: “Pressure”

This November my husband’s college classmate/roommate/close friend will be getting married to his fiancée (who is now a part of our tight-knit circle of friends). Our friend’s fiancée is originally from Taiwan; her entire family is still based in the city of Taipei, & they are planning on getting married there in a few months. Our entire circle of friends are planning on attending the wedding, so it’s going to be pretty amazing.

My mom grew up in the city of Taipei, but she hasn’t been back to Taiwan in over 35+ years or so. I have heard plenty of fun stories from my mom about her experiences growing up in Taiwan. However, I have never once visited that place myself. So, I’m pretty excited visiting Taiwan for the first time with my husband (who is the best travel companion). We are planning on making this trip an extended vacation, so we will also be passing through Japan (to visit my grandparents at the cemetery again, & to visit friends + family). We will be spending 7 days in Taipei, Taiwan, then hopping over to Tokyo, Japan for another 10 days. (For our experience this year, booking a layover flight was much more affordable than booking a direct flight. So, we decided to extend our layover in Japan for a few more days.)

Since the wedding is fast approaching, my husband & I have started to get ready for our trip by digging up all of our travel necessities from our storage closet, & also getting a few extra items here & there. This past weekend, I went shopping with a friend & we stopped by one of our favorite Japanese home goods stores: MUJI. I picked up a few new items for my upcoming overseas trip.

1. His & Hers travel neck pillows: This is the first time we will be using neck pillows on our fight. It’s a curious thing why we haven’t used them before, since we tend to travel overseas often, but we are using them now, so… & these neck pillows are very versatile. The strap is adjustable & this neck pillow also does triple duty: 1. a neck rest (obviously), 2. a waist pillow for lower back support, & 3. a foot rest when you open it horizontally. The cover can be removed & machine washed. I got a pink & grey striped one for myself & a charcoal & grey striped one for my husband.

2. travel slippers: We always bring a pair of slippers with us on our overseas flights, so as soon as the plane takes off, so do our shoes. It is much more comfortable to take off one’s shoes on a long flight, & it helps to have a pair of slippers on hand to wear on the plane. These room slippers are very comfortable, affordable, & come in a handy carrying case. This is very slim in size, so it’s easy to stow away in a backpack without taking up much space.

3. portable folding scissors: These small scissors are very handy. They fold up like a pen, & they are easy to carry around in a backpack or a purse. There have been many times my husband & I have needed a pair of scissors in our overseas hotel room & were not able to locate one. Of course I won’t be bringing this on the plane, but I will be packing this for sure.

Ok, so I couldn’t end this post without mentioning that I also went a little nuts again with some stationery shopping. I couldn’t help myself! Well, it was mostly because I had a store credit voucher to one of my favorite stationery shops (& that voucher was practically burning a hole in my wallet). Anyway, I didn’t exactly go buck wild, but I did end up getting some new pens.
