wet-def

It’s been raining more than a lot in my city. It’s not just rain, but full on storms with bouts of hail, lightning, thunder, & gusty winds. Even though many of the cities around me are experiencing nasty sinkholes, landslides, flooding & falling trees, I’m still glad &/or grateful that I’m not living anywhere east of the Colorado Rockies. I’m much more accustomed to braving the torrential rain & chilly wind rather than the snow & artic temperatures.

Even though this winter’s rainy season (due to a Pineapple Express weather system) is completely soaking my region & making my area waterlogged, I’m really enjoying the weather. The days are wet & soggy. The nights are absolutely frosty cold (but certainly not as cold as the mid-west), but I’m happy as a clam sitting indoors by my cozy fireplace with a nice hot cup of coffee.

This brings me to my newly chosen favorite word. As you can clearly see, I’ve chosen the word ‘wet’ in homage to the weather forecast in my area. Hey guys, guess what? California is not always full of sunny days, with skimpy bikini-clad women lounging on a palm tree-lined beach. We can have very cold & gloomy days too.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve had to use an electric heating device to warm up my bed at night. When I was a kid & had to share a bedroom with my sister, we even shared a bed (it was a queen size). I vividly remember we used to have a powder blue electric blanket on our bed, & I liked to play with the temperature control buttons on the cord. I loved that electric blanket so much. When you turned the setting all the way up to the highest setting (the red button), it really made the bed super hot, so we could only use the low & medium settings (the yellow & orange buttons). That shows how powerful our electric blanket from the 1980s really was.

I also remember that my dad didn’t like it when we used the electric part of the blanket because in those days, the electric wires were sewn into the blanket (you could feel the wires zig-zagging throughout the blanket) in between the layers, & the blanket itself was made of material that, in today’s standard, would be considered highly flammable. My dad was always paranoid that we would leave the electric blanket on all night, & it would short circuit & catch fire while we were sleeping. Every time we used the electric blanket, my dad would get upset & lecture us on the dangers of flammable objects. We finally got rid of that electric blanket when it once-and-for-all died on us in the late 90s.

These days I use an old lady’s heating pad that I bought at Walgreens to heat up my bed, or should I say only my side of the bed. I wouldn’t dare use an entire heating blanket. That would roast Jian (the very warm-blooded person) alive. Any small temperature spike, & Jian will feel overly warm & uncomfortable. That’s one of the main reasons why he likes to drink iced beverages, even in these 40-ish degree (farenheit) weather. It’s also another reason why I never ask him advice on what weather-appropriate clothes to wear when we go out. Jian’s standard reply whenever I ask him whether or not I should wear a warmer jacket is always, “It’s not really cold outside. You don’t need a thick jacket. You could just wear a vest & be warm enough.” Then, I stupidly take his advice, grabbing a thinner jacket & end up freezing my buns off, regretting not wearing the warmer jacket I was debating on wearing in the first place. So, I basically wrote all of this inconsiquential, unimportant nonsense just to say that I heat up my side of the bed with a small old lady’s heating pad so that Jian’s side of the bed doesn’t get too hot for his comfort.

It’s still raining on-&-off as I’m writing this blog post. I’ve got my jazz playlist on Spotify turned on, & I just finished my large cup of coffee. It’s super wet outside, & I’m toasty warm, dry, & cozy inside my house. I’m excited that my second brother has come home for the weekend to celebrate my mom’s birthday. My oldest brother & his family is coming over later today for a hot pot party. It’s time for me to go & get ready for all the fun festivities… & food! Until next time, cheers!

P.S. Please, please, pretty please follow me &/or my playlists on Spotify.

Oh geez, it’s been oh-so-long since I’ve eaten a proper doughnut. My favorite classic doughnut bakery will always & forever be Happy Donuts (whose shops are rapidly closing all around the Bay Area). However, my new all-time favorite hipster doughnut bakery is Crosstown Doughnuts (from all the way over in London, England). Ever since I’ve had my first taste of these super delicious vegan doughnuts while I was visiting London, I was hooked.

I mean, I managed to strong-arm (without difficulty) Jian into eating these doughnuts for breakfast more than a couple of times during our trip. I even managed to sneak 2 chocolate doughnuts onto our flight back home, in Jian’s backpack, without crushing them. It’s pure torture every time I look at the bakery’s Instagram feed. Crosstown Doughnuts doesn’t ship to anywhere outside of England, & every single time I see one of their new photos pop up in my Insta-feed, I feel a longing in my heart for those delicious sweet treats. It’s like the food equivalent of a cock tease.

Buttt…doughnuts aren’t the only reason why I chose “glaze” as my current favorite vocabulary word. In the past year or so, I’ve been getting into ASMR audio clips, & even following a few ASMR artists on YouTube Patreon. I have really been enjoying listening to these audio clips, & they really help put me in a more positive mood.

One of my favorite ASMR audio artists likes to use the word “glaze”, well he used the past tense word “glazed“, in a few of his audio clips, & that word just got stuck in my brain. The context in which this ASMR artist used the word is not something I’d like to openly discuss. This person’s subject matter for their audio clips are quite risqué (a.k.a. NC-17 rated). This artist that I follow used this word to describe a situation perfectly, & it was able to vividly paint a picture of the scenario unfolding from the audio clip. I promptly had to comment to the artist that their use of the word “glaze” had me thinking about doughnuts while listening to their non-food related, very 🔥 🔥 audio clip. The artist quickly replied back saying that although that wasn’t their initial intent, that person found my comment hilarious, & was now unable to think about doughnuts without having a little chuckle.

I kind of want to describe the audio clip I was listening to at the time the word “glaze” was embedded into my mind, but I don’t want to have to put an adult rating on this blog. I’ll just let you make your own inferences as to what that risqué audio clip was all about. 😉 Until then, cheers baby.

I recently read a book where one of the main characters was British. It made me swoon every time I heard this gent use this word “dahh-ling” as a term of endearment toward the person he loves. During my brief time spent in London, I was hoping I’d hear this word being used by a local Londoner, somebody, anybody…but alas, I was unsuccessful on that front. I’d still like to hear this absolutely adorable word being spoken by a Brit in person, rather than on TV or in a movie.

So, this word is my chosen favorite word at the moment. Whenever I hear/read this word, I can’t help but think of actress Zsa-Zsa Gabor. I just loved it every time I heard her say this word on the popular classic TV show Green Acres. When I was a kid, I used to watch repeats of Green Acres (as well as many other “oldies”) on the Nick-At-Nite channel, where they’d always show re-runs of classic TV shows from the 50s, 60s, & 70s.

I don’t know why I was so drawn to watching these older TV shows, but I just loved Zsa-Zsa Gabor & her sister Eva Gabor. Those two actresses somehow reminded me of my maternal grandmother…all of them done up in their finest clothes, with their hair perfectly coiffed, all while wearing their best jewels. Also, the theme song to the Green Acres show pretty much summed up my parents’ relationship in one catchy theme song. My mom loved to live the big city life wearing fashionable clothes & her best jewelry, while my dad liked to get down & dirty in the garden. My dad, having spent many years living in Texas, admired farm/ranch living. He could never really live on a farm or ranch himself, but he always dreamed of it. You know, my dad always loved the cowboy way of life. My mom on the other hand, was a city girl that didn’t really love the outdoors, but she tolerated it for the sake of my dad. So this show kind of reminded me of my parents a little bit, but the main actress reminded me a lot of my grandmother.

I just adored the way Zsa-Zsa Gabor would say the word “darling“…as in DAAHHH-LIIING, with a dreamy European accent. As a little kid, I would practice saying this word while looking in the mirror, hoping no one would catch me doing something so silly. To this very day, this word makes my heart flutter. It’s so incredibly romantic & sweet. I feel like I want to incorporate more British slang terms & vocabulary words into my own English vocabulary. I don’t want to come off as a cheesy Anglophile, but I think it would be kind of fun to mix things up a little. I think I might start by using the word “darling” more in my vocabulary. Well, until then, cheers mates!

P.S. I’m going to Los Angeles to see The Killers in concert at the Staples Center! But before that, I’m going to another concert in one week to see Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats along with Kings of LeonWoah.
