I am almost packed & ready for my vacation/friends’ wedding. Today, my husband & I are running around town, tying up some loose ends. We went to the bank, picked up our dry cleaning, & now we are having a sort-of light lunch before I do my “girly thing” & get my eyebrows groomed at the salon. I don’t have caterpillars growing on my forehead, but every girl likes to get dolled up & beautified every now & again.

For lunch, we headed to the big city & had a quick bite to eat at B. Patisserie. B. Patisserie is a great little bakery that carries all of my favorites (pastries & cakes, of course!). Take a look at these mouth-watering pics!

My husband & I started off with 2 pastries: 1 plain Kouign Amann (pronounced: Queen Ah-Mahn) & 1 chocolate filled Kouign Amann.

The chocolate filled K.A. wasn’t really to my liking. It was a bit too sweet for my taste. I preferred the plain K.A.

Next, we shared a toasted Reuben sandwich that came with a side of salad…& I have to say, the sauerkraut was out-of-this-world fresh! Normally, I don’t like sauerkraut in my Reuben sandwich, but this particular sandwich was so delicious!

To top it all off, we shared a glass of iced tea. Wow! What a lunch we shared. It was a little heavier than we were aiming to have for lunch, but it was all delicious within our wildest dreams. Now, we’re off to the next item on our agenda…to grab a cup of our favorite coffee!! Cheers.

This idea just suddenly popped into my head as I was eating breakfast this morning. I don’t understand why I always do this, but I tend to think a lot about food while I’m eating, like intensely think about food. I’m not thinking about the food I’m eating at that moment; I don’t over-analyze the food I’m eating, but I am thinking about many different types of other food.

Every now and again, I will sprinkle in a few references from the Ratatouille animated movie. (That movie is one of my absolute favorite movies of all-time.) No, I don’t think about rats cooking my food. My Ratatouille references usually lean towards Chef Auguste Gusteau & his motto “Anyone can cook!”. Sometimes I imagine what it would be like if that character was a real-life person, & he cooked my meal. I’m hungry again. Anyway, enough chit-chat. Here’s the list. Yup, the one I mentioned in the title.

1. Breaded Pastries (e.g Kouign amann, cheese danish, croissant, palmier)
2. Dessert Pastries/Cakes (e.g Mille crêpe cake, cream puff, shortcake, éclair)
3. Chinese soup noodles (mostly hand-pulled & hand-cut noodles. I’m not a big fan of egg noodles used for café style instant noodles)
4. Lobster (boiled or steamed…with oodles of drawn butter. I like most other seafoods too.)
5. Toast (with butter &/or strawberry jam)
6. Häagen Dazs ice cream (I like a lot of flavors.)
7. Pasta (authentic Italian or Japanese style, but mostly capellini with Aglio E Olio & tomatoes)
8. Chinese Sausage (especially the street vendor style, which is rotisserie-cooked like a hot dog, & it’s on a stick. Not a fan of the sweet Taiwanese sausages though. I do, however, also enjoy different wursts & breakfast links/patties)
9. Meat (e.g adult & young cow, pig, young sheep, various birds)
10. Sushi (I only eat it sashimi or nigiri style. I don’t believe in rolls of any kind, especially if it’s slathered in a creamy sauce, but that’s just my personal preference.)
11. Cereal (cornflakes, plain or frosted)

So, where do I begin? Let me start off by saying that I am terrified of spiders. It doesn’t matter if it’s a teeny-tiny baby or a giant hairy tarantula. Spiders, in general, creep me out…like the “jump on top of a table & scream my lungs out” type of creep out. I don’t know why or how this came about, but I’ve been this way my entire life, & if I ever see a spider within a 50+ ft. radius of me, I will over-the-top freak out & cause a scene…especially if my husband is around.

Las night was no exception, & boy did I sure get the heebie-jeebies. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about what happened. Let me break it down for everyone:

After taking my shower & going through my usual bedtime routine , I got into bed & was playing games on my iPad, which I often do before I go to sleep. Right before I get ready to sleep, I go to the bathroom at least once. (I tend to have a more active bladder right before I go to bed, which I find very unusual.) As I walked back to my side of the bed, I saw a baby spider crawling on the wall next to my nightstand. I didn’t really think anything of it, & squashed it with my finger. (Sorry, little fella.) I then proceeded to turn of my bedside lamp.

As you can see in the above photo, the lampshade is quite long, & it covers the switch. So I have to really go under the shade & reach for the switch to turn the lamp on/off. I was hovering over the lamp so I could get a better look at where the switch was, instead of my usual blindly feeling around for it, & that’s when I saw at least 6 or 7 other baby spiders roaming around inside my lampshade…making webs & having a good time. It wasn’t until I backed away from my entire nightstand, when I saw more spiders crawling on the desk surface of the table, & some we’re making webs from the lamp to the walls (as you can see in the above photo). 1. Spiders were crawling on that wall. 2. Spiders were making long web lines from that wall to the lampshade, then back to wall no.1, 3. Spiders were crawling up & down inside that lampshade & making webs around the light bulb.

I know that these little guys were harmless & minding their own business, but I couldn’t help but let my phobia rush over me & let me feel scared. Of course, like I had mentioned earlier, I had to make a huge fuss about it all. I woke my husband up in a panic, & made him vanquish my mortal enemies, like the scaredy cat I am.

Then, my husband being the macho guy that he is, tried to reassure me afterwards that I was overreacting, & that since the spiders were taken care of, I’d have nothing to worry about. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT??! Who is he trying to kid here? Does he not know my personality?

Of course I’m going to make a huge deal out of it & scare my own self.

I let my paranoia get the better of me & decided to get the vacuum & clean the whole area. I think the part that freaked me out the most was thinking about how long those spiders had been there without my knowledge. I mean, I turned on the lamp somehow & at some point during the night, right?? So, how could I have not seen them earlier?? How come I didn’t notice them the whole time I was propped up against my headboard, playing with my iPad? More importantly, how could I have missed seeing them while I was lying in bed, facing that exact wall & playing with my cell phone??

I am usually much more careful & aware of all the creepy-crawlies that come my way.

I am especially meticulous when it comes to keeping my bedroom neat, clean, & clear of all unwelcomed bugs.

I even have a plug-in Bell+ Howell pest repellent right next to my bed. Letting that many tiny spiders invade my sacred space just really baffles my mind. How could I slip up like that? I tried to sleep, & eventually I did. However, this morning I woke up with a few itchy bites on my forearms. Next time, I will definitely have a better plan of action to prevent this from happening again. Woof.
