I’ve been wanting a blinged-out, bedazzled, crystalized cell phone case for a long time.  However, I was having a really tough time finding a case that I really liked.  The more I searched, the more frustrated I was getting.  All of the cases I saw online or in-store were not to my liking (either not a color I liked, or not a design I liked).  I found a few online shops that offered customizing services, but those options were extremely expensive.  Not only were the crystalized cases I found very expensive, I was also unsure of the quality of the cases.

Soooo, I gave up on trying to find a ready-made crystalized cell phone case that I thought was “the one” & decided to make my own custom cell phone case.  By doing this, I was able to choose the materials I wanted, & I was able to customize my case however I liked.  Also, I found this method to be quite cost saving, & it gave me a sense of self-accompishment.  Well, here’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for.  Let’s take a look at my finished DIY project.

my finished project: custom iPhone case

Aleen’s Platinum Bond Glass & Bead crafting glue used in my project

my private collection of Swarovski crystals & plastic rhinestone beads

Materials Used:

  1. pink plastic shell cover for iPhone 4/4s (color: sweet pink w/ glitter effect)
  2. mixed rhinestone beads
  3. Swarovski crystal beads
  4. crafting bond glue

I bought this inexpensive case from an online Japanese retailer that ships overseas to most countries.  I also got all the rhinestone beads from Etsy.  The Swarovski crystals came from my own private crafts supplies collection.  After arranging & gluing all of the beads, I allowed the crafting glue to set & dry for at least 1 full day before using the case.  Et voilà!  There you go.  That’s the end of it. ❤

Well, I’m such a klutz, a butterfingers, a boob, etc.  I’m just darn clumsy & today I proved it.  Today, when I got home from running errands, I put my wallet & cellphone on the hood of my car as I ran to grab the mail from the mailbox.  I’m sure  you can guess what happened next…my phone slid off the car & dropped smack dab on the concrete driveway.

I was soooooo incredibly relieved that there was no physical hardware or aesthetic damage to the cellphone itself.  There were only 2 small scratched patches & a hairline crack on the corner of my phone case.  I am so happy & glad & relieved (& all that stuff) that I purchased an extremely reliable & durable phone case.  I’ve made mistakes in the past where I’ve purchased phone cases that were purely for looks & not for function.  Now that I have a cellphone that I know I’m going to treasure & use for many years to come, I ended up getting a phone case that’s not only pretty, but very practical as well.

I’m just a little disappointed that I dropped my cellphone…ANNNNND…I dropped my cellphone so soon after I had purchased it.  I’m also disappointed that I put my phone case to the test today.  Oh, & I was trying so hard to be good & not make any accidents with my new cellphone.  I try very hard to keep all of my electronic items in the best condition possible, & it always pisses me off when I do stupid things like this.

Well, on a positive note…I was able to save & re-use my phone case.  There were 2 scratches on my phone case & one small hairline crack.  Here’s how I fixed the little imperfections on my phone case:

  1. I used a manicure nail file to smooth down the rough patches.  I used the strong side of the nail file to smooth down the scratchy parts & the buffer side to smooth out the scratch lines.
  2. Next, I used a clear Top Coat nail polish (with a nylon ingredient built in) to paint a light layer of coating on the slim crack.  The nail polish I used is the Top Coat kind, because that’s the most durable part of a nail manicure.  I made sure to paint 2-3 coats on both sides of the case to make sure the coating lasts.
P.S. This is what my cellphone & case looks like:

Everybody goes through this. Whether you have an iPhoneBlack Berry, or an Android phone. This has happened to ALL OF US. The Cell Phone Syndrome.

When you bring home your shiny new “toy” for the first time, it’s got that new shine look & feel (kind of like that “new car” smell).  Most of us don’t even bother flipping through the 50-page instruction booklet.  We just idle the day away, curiously tapping away on the touch-screen, carefully inspecting every menu icon.  We just can’t wait to add our MP3’s, cool background wallpapers, & that cool unique ringtone (that nobody else has).

If you have a Smart phone / PDA phone, you’ll be wasting spending most of your time filling your phone with all the cool apps your friends have (& more).

Once you’ve figured out how to manipulate your shiny new plaything, you will soon be experiencing the Cell Phone Syndrome (a.k.a. CPS).  As a result, these are the 2 most common symptoms of CPS:

  • When you are waiting in line at a store, waiting at a restaurant, or waiting for an appointment, you will inadvertently pick up your phone & start playing with it.
  • When you are with a group of friends, one person will take out their cell phone to use, & one-by-one everyone will follow suit & take out their own cell phones to use.

It’s a vicious cycle…one which has slowly taken over our society & has erased all forms of social, verbal interaction along with eye contact.  Long gone are the days of face-to-face human conversation, just but once a fleeting memory in the fabric of our lives.  (Also, no, I do not count web-chatting a form of conversation because you are still using an electronic device.)
